Ruth Armishaw

SOPRANO

Ruth Armishaw was a member of the New Zealand Youth Choir 2000 to 2001, joining her sister Lauren on several courses and the Texas tour.

This fitted around her study towards a Bachelor of Music in vocal jazz performance which she graduated from in 2002. She continued the study in 2005 till 2007, gaining an honours degree from NZSM in the same field. She supplemented this with work as a student advocate in the Massey University Wellington student Association, and as a peer tutor in the music department.

Not long after the Texas tour ended, Ruth joined the Wellington chorus of New Zealand Opera and continues to appear in their productions, totalling 30 operas to date.

In the almost 2 decades since NZYC, Ruth has established herself as a busy voice teacher in Wellington. Her philosophy is “promoting healthy and versatile vocalisation” and as a performer, she follows this, covering a wide variety of styles from jazz to musical theatre and Opera.

Returning to Choral singing recently, she is a founding member of professional vocal ensemble Inspirare, which began in 2016.
