Hazel is originally from Nelson, and moved to Wellington to study Musicology at the New Zealand School of Music. She completed her degree in 2011 and is currently training to be a secondary teacher.

Hazel was a member of the NZSSC from 2005 – 2008, and was previously a member of NZ Youth Choir from 2009 – 2012.
